ENGLISH - Online Learning & Continuity of Learning at Home

All NSW public schools need to regularly review their preparedness to enact their arrangements for providing learning and working from home in case this is required at short notice. The Learning from home hub is in place to support continuity of education in the event that students and staff are unable to attend school (e.g. COVID-19 self-isolation requirements).

Nicholson Street Public School class teachers have incorporated English into their home learning plans and/or Google Classrooms. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.

* Sound Waves

Please go to:

Sound Waves is a systematic synthetic phonics and word study program that teaches spelling and reading skills. The passwords for all of the Sound Waves levels have been sent home through class parents. Your child should be aware of which level they are working at. If they are unsure, please check with their class teacher. When you log into Sound Waves online, you will find units of work to cover the school year, as well as some online games and helpful hints to complement each unit. Your child's class teacher will let you know which unit of work the class is currently up to.

* Wushka

Wushka is a levelled digital reading program for beginning to fluent readers. There are quizzes after every story. Please instruct your child to read books at the level that they are up to according to reading levels that have been relayed by their class teacher. Please go to:

Please ask your child's teacher for the password.

For security purposes, please email your class teacher for your child's Wushka User Name (if you would like your child to use Wushka).

Please note that Wushka is a resource that will complement your child's home reading program. There is no obligation to read the online books, unless a Wushka task has been specifically allocated by the class teacher. However it is a fun and different way to read, with a variety of stories available.
