The Learning Support Team at Nicholson Street Public School

Every child at Nicholson Street Public School has different learning needs. The key function of the learning support team is to formulate, implement and review a range of strategies to support learners at all levels access the curriculum and meet their potential as learners.

The learning support team is a whole school planning and support mechanism formed with the purpose of addressing the learning support needs of students. They do this through the coordination, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of educational programs.

The team has three key focus areas:

  1. Systems – What we do to support teachers
  2. Practices – What we do to support students
  3. Data – What we use to inform the decisions we make

Every teacher is in principle a member of the learning support team however participation will vary according the needs of individuals in a teacher’s class. The core members of the learning support team at Nicholson Street Public are the Principal, Assistant Principal, Learning Support Teacher and our School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs). These members meet each week to review referral information, formulate programs and prioritise support and resources; ensuring each student at the school is able to access the level of support most appropriate to their needs.
